Recycloide Cranium [Crânio Recicloide]

The work Recicloid Cranium is one of the examples from the series Recicloids, made solely with aluminium foil presenting half-animal, half-robot characteristics. This work “creates a poetic common ground which anchors the real and positive plurality”, as mentioned by Fernando Cocchiarale and Fernanda Lopes, the curators for his exhibition “As dobras no espaço e no tempo [The folds in space and time]”. Without the use of other media apart from what was used in sculpture, the relationship between the making and the conceptual projection of the work in itself permeate his practice, bringing with it the lightness of the work in relation to references of air and wind.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Franklin Cassaro began his career in the 1980s. He attended the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage. For the conception of his work, he seeks to maintain the presence of elements of nature, especially air and wind. Paper handling is a hallmark of his works. He took part in exhibitions at the Frieze Art Fair in London in 2006, Art 35 Basel in 2004, Art Basel Miami Beach and Art 34 Basel in 2003. In 2000, he joined the VII Havana Biennial, ARCO – Feira International of Contemporary Art, in Madrid, and Artissima, of Turin, in Italy.
